Kahuna Poke, The New Hawaiian Dish In Town

Do you love to have a bowl of fresh ingredients which includes your favourite raw fish and crunchy vegetables? If yes, then you might want to try out Kahuna Poke, the new hawaiian dish in PJ town!

I had the opportunity to attend Kahuna Poke's soft launch just a few weeks back and I must say that these are the only times, where you will be able to watch me eat clean. Every since I had my first Poke bowl from Poke Bear, Sunway Pyramid, I have always had cravings for these kind of dish.

I think the best part of Poke, this Hawaiian dish, is that it can be served as a starter, side dish or even as a main dish. It all depends on how much of ingredients are you ready to devour, be it shared or eaten individually.

For me, I always enjoy my Poke dishes as a main course; just because I avoid sharing yummy food. Like I can recommend them to you, but I'd prefer to have my own serving. Just stating facts.

If you are wondering where is Kahuna Poke located at; it is located in the heart of PJ - Jalan SS21/1A Petaling Jaya, Selangor. Yes! It is placed at one of the busiest areas in town. So be wise, with your parking skills and knowledge.

For those of you who love sharing everything on Instagram, this place would be perfect for you! There's a surf board placed right at the feature wall with a "Kahuna Poke" LED sign.

There are a few things that I like and dislike about Kahuna Poke; allow me to share them with you.

Things I like about Kahuna Poke:

1. The ingredients are truly fresh. The raw salmon tastes super good and they are generous with the portions of each ingredients too!

2. Proper walk space. A lot of times, restaurants like this tend to cram up the tables just to fit in more patrons at any point of time, but thankfully Kahuna Poke chose to go with comfort instead.

3. Every corner is Instagram-able. Not only do they have that feature wall that I mentioned, but also their side walls are painted with shades of blue waves to give the whole Hawaiian vibe. Not forgetting the fish-motif pillows which are extremely adorable!

4. Friendly staffs. I also managed to enjoy my time at Kahuna Poke because their staffs were really friendly and accommodating. They seem to be very family-like.

Things I dislike about Kahuna Poke:

1. Finding a car park is an adventure. Like I mentioned earlier in the post, Kahuna Poke is located at one of the busiest place in town, so finding a car park can be quite the challenge. If I was hungry, I'd probably not choose to go this area at all.

2. Price is higher than average. As much as I got to enjoy their meal for free, I did get to take a look at their pricing and at first glance, I doubt I will want to pay that much for a bowl of poke. But! If I am not mistaken, they are still in the midst of setting their final price. So, keeping my fingers crossed that they bring down the price point by a little.

3. Limited choice of ingredients. For me, I would say that the amount and choice of ingredients are sufficient enough. As I like to eat what they have. But for some others, the list of ingredients at Kahuna Poke, may come off as insufficient. (Especially, if you are going to be comparing it with Fish Bowl)

If you are wondering what are the ingredients that they serve in Kahuna Poke; allow me to share them with you here: Salmon, Tuna, Kahuna Nori Rice, Seasonal Greens (leafy vegetables), Carrot, Corn, Onion, Japanese Cucumber, Edamame, Almond, Red Cabbage, Cherry Tomatoes, Walnut, Pineapple, Red Radish, Chuka Wakame, Avocado, Pomegranate, Onsen Egg, Ikura (Salmon Roe), Kimchi, Kale Chips, Wasabi Peas, Salmon Skin Crisp.

As for the flavours; Signature Shoyu, Fiery Ginger Garlic, Sriracha Aioli, Avocado Wasabi and Miso Sesame.

For the toppings; Green Onions, Sesame Seeds, Ebiko (Shrimp Roe), Furikake, Chilli Pepper, Seaweed Flakes, and Tenkasu (Tempura Crunch).

So there you have it, my insight of the food, pricing and environment of Kahuna Poke. Do give them a try and let me know what do you think about Kahuna Poke.

Enjoy your meal!
